To wonder how someone could possibly know my deepest shame and darkest secrets and STILL love me?
This is the gift that was given to me so many years ago when I first began to process my story.
A dear and gentle woman sat with me. And sat and sat and sat, while I slowly and painfully unravelled myself.
One day, when I could finally bring myself to look up, what I saw in her eyes changed me. I saw an unflinching willingness to hold my pain no matter what…to sit with me for as long as it takes.
That’s how I experienced the life-giving gift of being truly known and truly loved, and it’s what I hope to give to those that work with me.
The journey to heal guided me to ashrams, silent retreats, 12 step meetings, healing circles and the study of a wide range of trauma-related disciplines including; attachment theory, somatic experiencing, neuroscience, ancestral healing, mindfulness, embodied parts therapy and transformational breathwork.
The more inner work I do the better I am at holding space for my clients to do their own inner work.
Working with hundreds of clients for more than three decades in mental health, addiction counselling and psychotherapy.
Clients that come to me have been living inside a dysregulated nervous system for a very long time. Caused by disruptions to our sense of safety, uncertainty, internalized oppression, systemic injustices, grief, loss, confusion, toxic shame and collective trauma.
But its more than that…these symptoms are a ‘calling’…a deep yearning from our soul…to be heard…acknowledged and seen.
